Join the Eastern Arrentre Camel Walk
15–19 June 2007 (Friday-Tuesday)
The Oliver family of Williams Well are hosting a camel walk from their outstation underneath Corroborree Rock through to the Spirituality Centre at Ltyente Apurte (Santa Teresa). The five-day walk travels along the beautiful rivers and creeks through the gorges of the eastern MacDonnells. The Eastern Arrentre traditional owners for the country will accompany the walk and provide interpretive commentary on the landscape, animals and flora. The walk is a wonderful opportunity to unwind and slow to the pace of an ageless landscape. It is an unique chance to learn and share in local Aboriginal culture. Choose to join us for the whole five days or part there of.

Marcus Williams of Pyndan Camel Tracks, who has previously provided eastern Arrentre school trips, will assist the Oliver family with the walk. BushMob, a bush adventure therapy and case management service for young people across Central Australia, will be the support crew and organise the overnight and meal camp. They will also transport people who join the walk for less than five days.

The walk will be fully catered with plenty of choices from a mixture of local indigenous bush tucker and camping style food. Swags and all camping equipment can be provided and will be transported between camps by support staff. Transport to Williams Well and back from Ltyentre Apurte will be provided. A satellite phone is available in case of emergencies.

The Irrkerlantye Learning Centre will subsidise the trip for people attending the Central Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention Capacity Building Workshop. If people attending the workshop are having difficulty paying we may consider negotiating a lower fee.
